Pantomime Exercises
(taken from the book, "rehearsal" 4th edition)
Pantomime - without words or props, a performer must indicate everything by physical suggestion. Examples are lifting an imaginary box or walking against an imaginary wind.
The following is a suggestion list of "everyday actions" that you can use as pantomimes.
| 1. | Polish your shoes as you tell your roommate about yesterday's test. |
| 2. | Through your binoculars, follow a bluejay which is disturbing other birds. Say anything appropriate that comes to mind. |
| 3. | Pick a bouquet of garden flowers and arrange them ina vase that you have with you. Be sure to keep in mind the kinds of flowers. |
| 4. | Play a game of solitaire. Lose. Talk about it. |
| 5. | A hinge on the screen-door is loose. Fix it. |
| 6. | Set the dining table for 12 guests. |
| 7. | Your car has just gone dead; you don't know why. Look over the motor, try this and that, find a solution. |
| 8. | Rear tire is flat. Change it. |
| 9. | Give yourself a shampoo; comb and set your hair. |
| 10. | It is morning; you are terribly sleepy but have an early class. Come to life as fast as your feelings will permit. |
| 11. | Pack your suitcase for a house party. |
| 12. | Clean imaginary spectacles (eyeglasses). Shine them. |
| 13. | Hang the family wash on the line. Talk to your neighbor as you work. |
| 14. | Select fresh fruits and vegetables at a market. |
| 15. | You are tired, hot, discouraged. Drop into a chair, fan with your newspaper. See something in the newspaper that surprises you. |
| 16. | It is a cold blizzardy day; you come in thoroughly chilled. Try to get warm. |
| 17. | Find mending materials and mend a tear in the lining of your coat. |
| 18. | Practice tossing a basketball into the basket. |
| 19. | Practice catching a softball as you toss it against the side of a barn or house. |
| 20. | Build a snowman with a friend. Talk to the friend as you work. |
